The oldest branch shrine of Fushimi Inari Taisha built by Motonari Mouri and Takakage Kobayakawa

Kui Inao Shrine is the oldest branch shrine of Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. Mori Motonari, who unified the western part of Japan with courage and intelligence during the Warring States period, had a deep reverence for the gods and Buddhas, and built the main shrine in 1575. Three years later, in 1560, Motonari's third son, Kobayakawa Takakage, built the main shrine building. Kobayakawa Takakage, who was the lord of Mihara Castle, donated "600 volumes of Great Prajnaparamita Sutra written in ink on paper" to Inao Shrine in 1585. "600 volumes of Great Prajnaparamita Sutra written in ink on paper" was later designated an Important Cultural Property by the prefecture, and is still carefully kept at the shrine.
