Handmade Japanese paper handed down from the Edo period

Blessed with the clear, abundant waters of the Ozegawa (Kinogawa) River, Otake has been handed down the tradition of washi paper making for over 400 years. Currently, the Otake Handmade Washi Preservation Society is involved in all aspects of the process, from cultivating paper mulberry to processing and papermaking. Otake Handmade Washi, made from 100% paper mulberry, is white and strong, and is available in a variety of types, including paper for hand-painted carp streamers and shoji paper. Otake Handmade Washi Village also offers hands-on learning opportunities, and accepts tours of production facilities and papermaking experiences.
