A brush village where people, culture and nature are in harmony
Kumano Town has a history of making from the latter half of the Edo period, and now there is Kumano brush, a traditional craft that is said to have the highest domestic production in Japan. Fudenosato Kobo is a facility that plays a central role in creating a brush village that makes the best use of the characteristics of this area. You can always see the permanent exhibition where you can learn about the history and culture of brushes, see, touch and experience them, and the brush making demonstrations by traditional craftsmen. We hold various special exhibitions throughout the year, and you can also experience making brushstrokes. In the brush making experience, you can experience two of the 12 brush making processes, "upper hair winding" and "finishing". Also, if you make a reservation one week in advance, the name will be engraved on the axis of the brush. You can also experience wearing Samue like a craftsman. A Japanese-style tapestry that draws books and pictures on a large 70 cm long x 35 cm wide white xuan paper that is tailored to a hanging scroll will be a fun work even with patterns. We rent out various types of Kumano brushes. You can also write letters to your family and friends in words of your travel memories. In addition to various brushes, you can freely use ink, paints, watercolor pencils, marks, etc. In the hand-painted Yuzen experience, one original handkerchief will be made with a Yuzen craftsman as an instructor. It is an authentic experience of drawing a sketch with blue flowers.
