*Closure period: August 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026
*Reopening: May 1, 2026
This reinforced concrete building, designed by architect Mamoru Yamada and built in 1935 (Showa 10), was formerly an affiliated hospital of the Hiroshima Post Office. Its distinctive design features large windows that create a sense of openness.
At the time of the atomic bombing, the windows were blown out by the blast, but the building did not collapse, allowing many atomic bomb survivors to receive treatment.
After renovations, it has been preserved as a building that conveys the reality of the atomic bombing, and is open to the public free of charge.
The atomic bombing archives room displays the former operating room and former sterilization room, which still retain tiles from the time of the bombing, as well as materials related to the atomic bombing.
