Developed by Motonari Mori in the mid-16th century. Mines that produced silver and lead

The Kuki Silver Mine ruins are located near the border with Hiroshima Prefecture. The mine was discovered in the early Kamakura period, and is said to have peaked at the end of the Sengoku period to the early Edo period. Mori Motonari, who made Koriyama Castle his residence, gained economic power from the silver mined here, and also produced bullets from lead to increase his military power, becoming the driving force behind his subsequent rapid growth. Many mining sites and relics related to smelting remain to this day, and the site was designated a national historic site in 2021. Local guided tours are also available.
