Developed by Motonari Mori in the mid-16th century. Mines that produced silver and lead

The Kuki Ginzan ruins are located near the prefectural border with Hiroshima Prefecture. It is said that the ore vein was discovered in the early Kamakura period, and its peak period was from the end of the Sengoku period to the early Edo period. Motonari Mori, who had Koriyama Castle as his residence, not only gained economic power through the silver produced here, but also increased his military power by producing gun bullets from lead, which became the driving force behind his later advancement. Many mining sites and smelting-related remains still remain, and it was designated as a national historic site in 2021. Tours led by local guides are also available.
