A hidden hot spring that gushes out from beneath your feet
Chihara Onsen, a hidden hot spring deep in the mountains of Shimane Prefecture, has been in operation since 1885. It is a rare hot spring in Japan where you can enter directly from the source that bubbles up from under your feet, and is highly regarded as a "foot-spring source." In the past, it was a hot spring resort specializing in medical treatment, but with the recent boom in hidden hot springs, it is now visited by hot spring lovers from all over the country. In 2021, it was ranked number one in Japan in the "100 Hina Springs of Japan" by the Hinabita Onsen Research Institute.
