[Details]
Fuchu furniture has been produced in Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture, since the Edo period. In the Showa era, it was known nationwide as a major production center for high-end wedding chests of drawers, and it is said that the town was filled with the sounds of wood carving and the scent of wood. At Wakaba Kagu (Museum & Showroom), the advanced processing and painting techniques cultivated through chest-of-drawers making are continuously evolving to create furniture that complements modern living, such as tables and chairs. The tour traces this "evolution" through the museum, offering a glimpse into the future of furniture making in Fuchu. In the paulownia wood tray making workshop, you'll experience the traditional Fuchu furniture technique of "arigumi" (dovetail joint), drawing on the techniques used in chest-of-drawers making. You'll feel the wisdom and skill of the craftsmen as you assemble the tray, experiencing it firsthand.

This is a unique and special experience plan that allows you to engage with Fuchu's traditional craftsmanship and witness the meticulous work of the artisans.
