The Beauty of Japanese Swords Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Enforcement of the Higashihiroshima City System: Oyama Sumimuneshige and Swords Associated with Hiroshima
There is a swordsmith related to Higashihiroshima named Oyama Sumimuneshige. Oyama blacksmiths are medieval Geishu swordsmiths who are said to have settled in Oyama (Hachihonmatsu-cho, Higashihiroshima-shi; Hiroshima-shi Aki-ku Seno) around the Kenmu era (mid-14th century). Muneshige was active in Oyama from the middle to the end of the Muromachi period, and although it continued for several generations, the number of existing swords is slightly limited. This exhibition is the first opportunity to display 15 of Muneshige's swords, whose whereabouts have been confirmed, in one place.
Also, we will introduce swords made by Hiroshima-related swordsmiths from the Kamakura period to the Edo period, as well as works by modern swordsmiths active in the prefecture, and excellent swords by master craftsmen such as Kageko, Kotetsu, and Sukehiro known all over the country, as well as sword braces, etc., starting with swords, etc., and approach the delicate, powerful, and gorgeous world of Japanese swords.
